At OL & Edward we have an Environmental Policy  that applies to all of our operations including management, office services, site operations, and procurement.

We strongly care about the life around us. Natural habitats are disturbed with every new project through noise pollution, air pollution and demolition. It is important to reduce the impact by us humans, to avoid detrimental damage that cannot be turned around. We urge all OL & Edward's stakeholders to understand the  importance of keeping to our aims.

During 2021 and 2022, we aim to:

  • make efficient use of natural resources by conserving energy and water, minimising waste and recycling where possible

  • meet our duty of care requirements in relation to waste by ensuring the safe keeping, transportation and subsequent recovery or disposal of waste

  • use recycled construction materials whenever these can be commercially justified

  • keep transport use to a minimum and regularly service vehicles to maintain their efficiency

  • work with suppliers to ensure they recognise and reduce the environmental impact of their products and transportation

  • include environmental considerations in investment decisions for new plant, equipment or working practices

  • inform and train all employees of the companies environmental objectives and how they can assist in meeting targets

  • use the most environmentally friendly cleaning products whenever possible

  • Provide the best sustainable design solution to our client

  • To priorities sustainable furniture strategies when proposing a design solution

  • To give solutions that suit BREEAM by considering the life cycle of the project

  • To reduce High Frequency Lighting and to consider lightening levels to provide best practice for visual performance and control

  • Water consumption: to minimise consumption by suggesting low water use fittings where possible

  • To reduce CO2 emissions (valuating best options for furniture, lighting, delivery etc)

  • To recognize and encourage a healthy internal environment through the specification of internal finishes and fittings with low emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs).

Targets

To achieve our aims, we have set ourselves the following targets (add or delete where applicable):

  • reduce vehicle emissions to air by the scheduling of work to reduce mileage and servicing all vehicles

  • reduce the generation of general and hazardous wastes by reducing the amount of stock held in stores and ensuring all jobs are accurately scoped and priced to ensure material usage is minimised

  • recycle as much paper, cardboard, plastic and metal waste generated in the office as possible

  • reduce paper usage by increasing the use of e-mail and electronic documentation

  • reduce energy consumption by monitoring energy usage and training staff on basic housekeeping

  • Energy & Atmosphere: Optimizing energy performance of lighting power, lighting controls, equipment and appliances;

  • Materials & Resources: the storage and collection of recyclables, for building reuse maintaining minimum of 40% of interior non-structural components (adaptation/change of use), to reuse a minimum of 30% furniture and furnishings, rapidly renewable materials and certified wood;

  • Indoor Environmental Quality: Low-emitting materials, sealants, adhesives, paints, coatings, carpet materials, composite wood and laminate adhesives, incorporating daylight into a minimum of 75% of spaces

  • Innovation & Design Process: innovation in Design solutions
